Compulsive Gamblers – They may seem like ideal employees or individuals – adventurous, bright, competitive, and energetic. It can be hard to physically identify compulsive gamblers because of a lack of physical signs, unlike the needle marks, slurred speech or breath odor present in alcohol or drug abusers. Compulsive gamblers deny the problem until they reach desperation and require help. Borrowing money to pay off debts incurred through gambling or to gamble further is a clear indication of a serious gambling problem. The gambler needs money which is an issue in itself. Furthermore, hiding one’s gambling activities from family, friends, and co-workers is another clear indicator. This concealment stems from embarrassment or shame on the person’ behavior.
